Maths is not my strong point. It’s no secret, anyone who knows me well is well aware. I can get by, of course, but numbers just aren’t my bag. Words are my thing. So, early on, I began to build a career around writing, as opposed to adding up.
Play to your strengths is the motto here. It is the reason why it is crucial for business owners to use their talents to grow their companies - and delegate the other stuff to people with the right skillset. Why sweat the tricky stuff? Concentrate on doing what you are good at and enlist the help of other people to execute the jobs you find difficult.
I don’t waste my time attempting to file my own tax return. I pay an accountant to do that. It’s money well spent as it means a) I don’t have to stress and struggle, losing precious hours of my life trying to make sense of something rather alien to me and b) I get a professional and fast result. Winner.
As a freelance writer, a service I offer is copywriting. What is it? Copywriting is creating written information with a striking and impressive delivery.
How’s the wording on your website? A bit dull? I can spread a little magic over that and revamp the words about you and your business into informative and compelling copy which really gets to the heart and soul of what you do.
What I really love is when clients say to me, “Oh, wow, you’ve made me sound so amazing!” It is usually not an arduous challenge, it’s just having the right skills to tell the story in the right way.
As a writer, the task of creating engaging text is a simple and enjoyable job for me, whereas for the business owner, whether the company is small or large, it can be the opposite.
Features, interviews, blogs, press releases. You name it, I can conjure it up from a blank page. From a small task to an extensive report or feature, I can help take that part of the worry away.
So, use and promote those strengths you have - and delegate the less favourable jobs to the experts in that specific field.
